What's New

This article is an overview of recent updates in the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student application.

 -  Mobile App: If you want to download the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app, go to the Apple App Store or Android Apps on Google Play and search for “Frontline ProgressBook Parent/Student” to find the mobile app.

   April 2026 Mobile App Update

General

The Student ID number field has been temporarily removed from the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app because it displayed the incorrect number.

  • The Student ID number has been added to a student’s information in the header of the app and in the list of your students displayed when you tap the down arrow ().
  • This release fixes issues that users of Apple products reported after the February 11, 2026 release where the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app froze or unexpectedly terminated.

Information for Users of Apple Products

The following updates are applicable if you access the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app on an Apple device:

  • On the Apple App store, the minimum requirements for the ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod have been updated to iOS 17.0 or later.
  • With Apple’s release of iOS 26, users will notice minor changes to the look of pop-ups in the app and the display of web pages accessed from the app.

Improved Selection Lists

On multiple screens, when you click to view the selections in a drop-down list, the currently selected option is now shaded and includes a checkmark (). The “Cancel” option to close the list without making a change is now on a purple background.

Dashboard > Grades Tab

Current Reporting Period Indicated

On the Dashboard > Grades tab, the current reporting period now displays “Current” after the reporting period abbreviation (for example, “Qtr4 – Current”) on the screen display and in the drop-down selection list to make it easier to identify. The current reporting period is displayed by default.

New Message

If the student has no classes or no assignments saved in the system, a message displays to inform you that classes and grades are unavailable at this time. You can tap Reload under the message to check again.

Chart View of Class Assignments

On the Dashboard > Grades tab, when you tap a class to view class details, the Assignments tab now includes the  Chart icon. Tap the  Chart icon to display a screen with a bar chart that groups assignments by the following categories: Missing, DueGraded, and Non-graded.

The View by Type list defaults to “All”, which means all assignments are listed on the screen. Tap a category to display only the bar for the selected category and filter the assignments listed on the screen by that category.

Improved Display of Assignment and Assessment Details

When you are viewing class details on the Assignments tab and tap an assignment, the Assignment Details screen that displays has been updated to display information in more defined sections.

  • The top section contains the assignment name and if appropriate, displays "Missing" on a red background, "Late" on a yellow background, or "Excluded" on an orange background if the assignment has any of those indicators.  
  • Assignment details (Assigned date, Due date, Weight, and Type) are now more clearly listed in their own sections on the screen.
  • The Score and Comment are listed under the details section.
  • The Envelope icon () is now at the bottom of the screen and includes the label Message Teacher. To send the teacher an email message about the assignment, tap Message Teacher

For an Assessment-based or Standards-based classes, when you have tapped View By Assessment to view the assignments by assessment and you tap an assessment to view details, the screen for the assessment has been updated to display information in more defined sections, similar to the Assignment Details screen.

Assignments

Assignments > Assignments Tab

Chart View of Homework Assignments

On the Assignments > Assignments tab, the  Chart icon has been added. Tap the   Chart icon to display the All Classes - Homework screen with a bar chart that groups assignments by the following categories: Missing  and Upcoming.

The View by Type list defaults to “All”, which means all homework is listed on the screen, but you can change the selection to display only the bar in the chart for the selected category and filter the assignments listed on the screen by that category.

Calendar

Note: The "Calendar" tab can be accessed from the menu or by selecting Assignments>Calendar.

New Message

On the Calendar tab, if the student has no classes or no assignments saved in the system and you tap the Filter icon (ActiveCalendarFilter_icon.png), a message displays to inform you that the filter is unavailable at this time. 

Attendance

Note: The Attendance tab can be accessed from the menu or by selecting Dashboard>Attendance.

Today's Attendance Record Displayed

On the Attendance tab, the student’s attendance record for today’s date now displays in a section at the top of the screen.

If the student has an absence record for today’s date, the section at the top of the screen includes the Attendance_ExclamationPoint.pngExclamation Point icon with the following information:

  • Absence Type
  • Today’s Date
  • Time In/Time Out (if applicable)

If the student does not have an absence record for today’s date, the card includes a Attendance_Checkmark.png Checkmark icon with the message “No absence for (today’s date).”

If the student has an absence record for today’s date and has assignments due for today’s date, the section “Assignments Due Today” displays with a count of the assignments. You can tap to view a list of assignments due on that date. If no assignments are due on the date, the following message displays: “No additional details to show.”

Chart View of Daily and Period Absences 

You can now view a chart of your student's Daily and Period absences for the year. The Chart icon has been added. Tap the  Chart icon to display the chart.

Tap the bar for an absence type to view a list of the absence dates included in the graph.

By default, the chart includes bars for the total count of both Daily and Period absences.

You can tap Absence by Type to display a selection list with the following options:

  • “Daily:” Tap to drill down to a chart that shows the count of each Daily absence type for the student.
  • “Period:” Tap to drill down to a chart that shows the count of each Period absence type for the student.
  • “View All:” Tap to display the default view with the total count of both Daily and Period absences.

For students with perfect attendance, the Attendance tab displays a message congratulating them on their perfect attendance with the message, “0 absences/tardies reported," and the Chart icon for viewing absences does not display.

Class Schedule

Class Schedule > Class Schedule List

Report View

On the Class Schedule screen, when you tap Class Schedule, the Switch to report view SwitchToReportView.png option now displays at the top of the Class Schedule List. You can tap this option to change the display of the class schedule to a table format with columns for Course Name, Period, Location, and Teacher Name.

By default, the schedule displays in landscape view, but you can tap the MobileRotate.png Rotate icon to switch the orientation of the schedule to portrait.

Additionally, you can share or upload this report. To do this, tap the Share icon to generate a PDF version of the schedule, and you can select the mobile app on your device to use and if applicable, the person with whom to share the schedule. When you are finished viewing the report, tap the Back arrow () in the upper left corner of the page banner to go back to the Class Schedule screen.

New Message

If the student has no class schedule data in the system (for example, no class schedule, transportation, or fees information), a message displays to inform you about this. You can tap Reload under the message to check again.

Report Cards

Landscape View

On the Report Cards screen, when you are viewing the PDF version of the report card, you can now rotate your device for a landscape view of the report card, which provides a better viewing experience if a report card is designed in a landscape view.

Notifications

New Message

On the Notifications screen, if students have no classes, the following message now displays, “Class Settings are unavailable at this time. Check back soon!” You can tap Reload under the message to check again.

Dashboard > News Tab

988 Ohio Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

The Dashboard > News tab now displays the logo of the 988 Ohio Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. If you tap the 988 Ohio Suicide & Crisis Lifeline logo, you have the option to tap Call 988 and talk with someone at the Ohio Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. 

Assignments

Assignments > Assignments Tab

Due Today Section

On the Assignments tab, the “Due Today” section now displays at the top of the tab if you have one or more assignments due on today’s date. The total count of assignments due displays with a green background, and the assignments are listed. Tap an assignment to view Assignments Details screen.


Assignment Details

Ability to Email Your Teacher about an Assignment

On the Assignment Details screen, you can now tap the Envelope icon () in the upper right corner of the screen to open your email client and send an email message to the teacher about an assignment. The teacher’s email address is populated, and the Subject of the email is the class name, followed by the assignment name. If the teacher’s email address is not available, the icon is not displayed

What's New Message

After a new release of the mobile app, the What's new? screen now displays the following message:
"For a full list of updates click App Updates."

You have the following options:

  • Tap App Updates to access this "What's New" article with more details about updates in the release.
  • Tap Close to close the "What's new?" screen, and it will not display again until the next release of the mobile app or if you delete the mobile app and re-install it.
Tip: You can also now access this "What's New" article at any time from the My Account screen.

Dashboard

Dashboard > Grades > Assignments Tab

Assignment Search by Name or Date

On the Dashboard > Grades tab, when you tap a class to view class details, the Assignments tab now includes the Search icon (). You can search Missing and Graded assignments for the class by name or date.

To search assignments for a class:

  1. Tap the Search icon () to display the Assignment Search screen.
  2. In the Search by name or date field, enter a name or enter a date in the format MM/DD/YY. You can enter partial information. Matching assignments are listed in descending order with the most recent due date first.
  3. Tap an assignment to display the Assignment Details screen.
  4. When you are finished viewing details, tap the back arrow () to return to the Assignment Search screen and the list of results.

Dashboard > Grades > Assignments Tab

New Indicators for Excluded or Late Assignments

On the Dashboard > Grades tab, when you tap a class to view class details on the Assignments tab, indicators are now used for excluded assignments (E_icon.png) or late assignments (L_icon.png) to help you find these assignments more quickly.

On the Assignments tab for a class, indicators for assignments that the teacher has marked as “Excluded” or “Late” are now displayed as appropriate.

If the teacher has marked an assignment as “Missing” and has selected “Exclude and Post” to exclude the assignment from the student’s overall grade, the assignment has the indicator “E” on an orange background (E_icon.png) in the “Missing” section of the Assignment tab.

If the teacher has marked an assignment as “Late,” the assignment has the indicator “L” on an orange background (L_icon.png).

  • If the teacher has also marked the assignment as “Missing,” the assignment with the “L” indicator is displayed in the “Missing” section.
  • If the teacher has not yet graded the assignment for the class, but the Due Date has passed, it is listed in the “Non-graded” section with the “L” indicator.
  • If the assignment is no longer missing and has been graded, the ”L” indicator displays on the Assignment Details screen when you tap to drill down to view more information.

Assignments

Assignments > Assignments Tab

Assignment Search by Name or Date

On the Assignments tab, the Search icon () has been added. (For more information about using this icon, see the Dashboard section.) Each matching assignment is listed on a row that includes the assignment name, the class name, and due date. If you search assignments for all classes, results will be based on the assignment name and the class name. 

My Account

Change Theme

On the My Account screen, you can use the Change Theme option to set your preference for whether screens in the mobile app are displayed in Light mode or Dark mode.

To set your preference for whether screens are displayed in Light mode or Dark mode, tap Change Theme to display the Select Theme list with the following options:

  • Light: Tap Light to always use a theme of black text on a white background throughout the FPPS Mobile app. This selection will override your device-level display settings.
  • Dark: Tap Dark to always use a theme of white text on a black background throughout the FPPS Mobile app. This selection will override your device-level display settings.
  • System: Tap System to display the theme in the mobile app following the device-level settings. This is the default selection. 

What's New Link

On the My Account screen, you can now tap What’s New? link to quickly display this “What’s New” article in this ProgressBook Parent & Student Learning Center.


   November 2024 Mobile App Update

Class Schedule

On the Class Schedule screen, you now tap Class Schedule to display the Class Schedule List screen with tabs for viewing your schedule for All Year or for a specific term. (All Year is the default view.) Tap a class in the schedule to display the Dashboard > Grades > Class Information tab.

Assessment Scores

The "Assessment Scores" screen has been added. If your district has set up assessments for display for your security level, you can view assessment scores in the mobile app. 

Tap Menu, then Assessment Scores to access the "Assessment Scores" screen.

Multiple screens If you do not have a student photo saved in ProgressBook, your first and last initials are now displayed at the top of the screen instead of a photo.

Dashboard

Dashboard > Grades

On the Dashboard > Grades screen, when there is no active reporting period, the label on the drop-down list for selecting the reporting period now displays "Select" to help you locate it. When there is an active reporting period, the current reporting period displays as the label of the drop-down list.

Note: When there is no active reporting period, the following message displays on the screen: “No active reporting period, please choose one above.”

Class Schedule

Screen Update
Class Schedule On the Class Schedule screen, when you are prompted to review the ProgressBook Parent & Student app and you tap OK to proceed, you now see a message in which you can tap to select a star rating without leaving the ProgressBook Parent & Student app.

Calendar

Screen Update
Calendar If you are on the Calendar tab and have tapped a date other than the current date and then tapped an assignment to view more details on the Assignment screen, when you tap the back arrow () on the Assignment screen, you are returned to the Calendar tab with the list of assignments for the date you selected.

My Account

Screen Update
My Account The My Account screen now includes a back arrow () in the banner that you can tap to go to the Dashboard screen.
My Account On the Menu screen, My Account is now located as the last item on the list.

  March 2024 ProgressBook Web Update

If your district has set up assessments for display for your security level, Assessment Scores is now an option in the navigation bar. Click Assessment Scores to go to the new "Assessment Scores" screen.

Multiple screens If you experience any connectivity issues, the An Error Occurred box now informs you that you can tap Reload to try loading the screen again instead of signing out and signing back in.
Multiple screens General updates have been made to the User Interface on iPads and tablets to improve usability.

Assignments

Assignments > Assignments  On the "Assignments" screen, if you tap an assignment, the "Assignment Details" screen that is displayed now includes any comments. This is the same comment that displays when you view Assignment Details from the Dashboard > Grades screen.

Class Schedule

Screen Update
Class Schedule You will now periodically see a ProgressBook pop-up message that asks if you are enjoying the ProgressBook Parent/Student app when you access the "Class Schedule" screen. You have the option to tap OK to proceed to your app store and leave a rating or tap Cancel to close the pop-up message. If you tap OK, you will not see the pop-up message again for 180 days. If you tap Cancel, you will see the pop-up again after two days.

Calendar On the "Calendar" screen, any assignments due or missing on today’s date are listed under the calendar by default without you having to tap the date to view them.

Notifications

Low Assignment Marks > Class Settings

On the "Class Settings" screen, the Reset link has been added at the bottom of the screen to enable you to quickly clear the selected threshold grade for each class.

When you tap Reset, a message displays asking you to confirm that you want to reset all grade for all classes.

If you want to proceed and change the selection for each class to "No grade selected," tap OK. If you do not want to change all grade selections, tap Cancel

Low Assignment Marks > Class Settings If you are a parent and you are on the "Class Settings" screen for one student and you select another student for whom the "Low Assignment Marks" notification is not enabled, you will be returned to the "Low Assignments Mark" screen for the original student you were viewing.

  March 2023 Mobile App Updates

You can now manage notifications in the mobile app!

If your school or district has enabled alerts in ProgressBook, you can now manage Missing Assignment and Low Assignment Mark alerts in the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app from the new "Notifications" screen.

  • The March 2023 release of the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app (version 1.0.2) includes the new "Notifications" screen that you can use to manage your alert subscriptions. You will be prompted to update the app to this latest version, and the "Notifications" screen will be available.
  • If you have previously subscribed to Missing Assignment and Low Assignment Mark alerts using the desktop version of ProgressBook, you can now view those settings on the "Notifications" screen in the mobile app.
  • You can now select to receive Missing Assignment and Low Assignment Mark alerts as push notifications on your mobile device.

What's new? After a new release of the mobile app, the "What's new?" screen may be displayed with any key items about the release and a link to this "What's New" article. Tap Close to close this screen, and it will not be displayed again until the next time this screen is used with a release of the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app or if you delete the app and re-install it.
Push Notification 
 

The first time you access the FPPS mobile app after the update, the Push Notification screen displays with a message asking if you would like to enable push notifications for the mobile app.

  • If you enable push notifications for the mobile, then on the new Notification screen (Menu > Notifications), you can select a notification type and manage the Push Notification option for an individual notification.
  • If you do not enable push notifications, then when you access the new Notification screen, you will see a Push Notification message that asks if you would like to enable notifications for ProgressBook. If you click OK, the Settings > ProgressBook page opens, and you can tap Notifications and toggle on Allow Notifications.

Notifications

The "Notifications" screen has been added. From the "Notifications" screen, you can manage your email settings and your subscriptions for alerts you receive by email, as well as enable to receive push notifications on your mobile device. 

Tap Menu, then Notifications to access the "Notifications" screen.

From the "Notifications" screen, you can manage Email Settings and settings for the following Notification Types:

  • Missing Assignments
  • Low Assignment Marks

Updates you make to your Email Settings and your selections to receive Email notifications for a Notification Type will also be reflected on the Alerts screen in the web browser version of ProgressBook.

Push notifications can only be managed using the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app.
Notifications > Email Settings On the "Notifications" screen, tap Email Settings to display the "Email Settings" screen, which you can use to manage the email addresses you use to receive alerts. 
Notifications >  Missing Assignments

On the "Notifications" screen, tap Missing Assignments to display the "Missing Assignments" screen where you can toggle to receive Missing Assignment alerts as a push notification on your mobile device and/or as an email notification that is sent to your saved addresses.

If you have selected to receive push notifications and a Missing Assignment alert is triggered, the "Missing Assignment" notification displays on your mobile device. Tap the push notification to display the "Assignments" screen with the list of the student’s missing assignments.

Note: If you are not logged in to the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app, the "Sign In" screen is displayed first, and then once you have logged in the app, the "Assignments" screen is displayed.

Notifications >  Low Assignment Marks

Notifications >  Low Assignment Marks > Class Settings

On the "Notifications" screen, tap Low Assignment Marks to display the "Low Assignment Marks" screen where you can toggle to receive Low Assignment Mark alerts as a push notification on your mobile device and/or as an email notification that is sent to your saved addresses.

If you have enabled to receive Low Assignment Mark alerts, you also need to set the threshold grade for each class for which you want to receive the alert. To do this:

  • On the "Low Assignment Marks" screen, tap Class Settings to display the "Class Settings" screen with a list of the student’s classes for the current reporting period.
  • For each class for which you want to set a low mark alert, tap the down arrow (), and select the threshold grade. 

If "No grade selected" displays for a class, the Low Assignment Mark alert will not be triggered for that class. 

Note: For classes that use standards-based grading, you cannot select a threshold grade.

If you have selected to receive push notifications and a Low Assignment Mark alert is triggered, the "Low Assignment Mark" notification displays on your mobile device. Tap the push notification to display the "Grades" tab of the "Dashboard" screen.

Note: If you are not logged in to the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app, the "Sign In" screen is displayed first, and then once you have logged in the app, the "Grades" tab of the "Dashboard" screen is displayed.

Dashboard

Dashboard > Grades > Assignments

On the "Assignments" screen for classes that use Assessments, when you have tapped Assessments to view the assignments by Assessment, you can now tap an assessment to view a detail screen for the assessment that lists the following information:

  • Assignment Name
  • Assessment Name
  • Score
  • Assigned
  • Due
  • Weight
  • Comment
  • Type

Additionally for classes that use Assessments, the forward slash (/) is no longer displayed for assignments. You can tap to drill down to details and view the marks for each assessment.

Dashboard > News On the "News" tab, the “New” indicator is now displayed for items that have been posted in the past three days from the current date. When you tap a news item with the “New” indicator, the “New” indicator no longer displays.

Assignments

Assignments > Assignments

On the "Assignments" tab in the “Missing” section, any assignment comment a teacher has added for a missing assignment is now displayed.

Additionally, if you tap an assignment in the “Missing” section to view details, the “Late” indicator is now displayed the same as it is when you view an assignment for a class from the path Dashboard > Grades > Assignments.

Class Schedule

Class Schedule On the "Class Schedule" screen, when you tap a class in the student’s schedule, the "Class Information" tab is now displayed instead of the "Assignments" tab.

Calendar

Note: The "Calendar" tab can be accessed from the menu or by selecting Assignments>Calendar.

When you have a filter applied, the filter icon that displays at the top of the "Calendar" screen is white on a purple background (ActiveCalendarFilter_icon.png). Because filters are selected by default, white on a purple background is the default view of the filter icon. If you have cleared all filters, the filter icon is purple (NoActiveCalendarFilter_icon.png). You can tap either icon to go to the "Filters" screen. 

You can tap the up arrow () under the calendar to collapse the calendar to view more assignments without scrolling and to view a bar that shows the filters that are currently applied.

You have the following options on the "Calendar" screen when the calendar is collapsed:

  • To reset a filter, tap X on the filter. This removes the filter from the panel, and the list of assignments is updated as appropriate for your new filter selections.
  • Tap the filter icon BlueFilterIcon.png in the bar to display the "Filters" screen.
  • Tap Show Calendar to hide the filters and display the calendar.

The following updates have been to the "Filters" and "Filters Detail" screens:

  • On the "Filters" screen, the Clear All Filters option has been relabeled as Reset All Filters.
  • On the "Filters Detail" screen, the Clear option has been relabeled as Reset.

When you tap Reset All Filters on the "Filters" screen or Reset on a "Filters Detail" screen, a pop-up message asks you to confirm that you want to reset the filter. Tap OK to reset the options. 

If you have access to multiple students, when you switch students, the filters return to their default selections.

Attendance

Note: The "Attendance" tab can be accessed from the menu or by selecting Dashboard>Attendance.

Attendance On the "Attendance" tab in the "Daily Attendance" section, the Period Attendance box now displays the date that you selected. Today’s date is the default, but you can tap the Calendar icon () to select another date.

My Account

Screen Update
My Account The version displayed now includes both the version number for the Frontline ProgressBook Parent & Student mobile app and the build number (for example, “1.0.2 – 40”) to match the build number that is shown in the App store.
My Account The URL accessed by the ProgressBook Help link has been updated to go to this ProgressBook Parent & Student Learning Center. The Parent & Student Learning Center does not require you to be logged in to the application to access it. When you tap the link, the Learning Center opens in a new screen.

Sign In On the "Sign In" screen, logos have been updated, and when you are logging in, a spinner displays to let you know the app is authenticating your login.

Dashboard > Grades On the "Grades" tab, the "Daily Comment" section now displays if a teacher has added a Daily Comment for a class for today’s date. Classes with comments are listed in the "Daily Comment" section, and you can tap a class to view the "Daily Comments" screen. If no daily comments have been added for today’s date, the "Daily Comment" section is not displayed. 
Dashboard > Grades > Assignments On the "Grades" tab, if you tap a class to view class details, the "Assignments" tab for the class now includes any assignment comments teachers have added. Assignments with a comment display the Comment icon () and the comment. If the comment is too long to display in its entirety, an ellipsis (…) is displayed at the end of the comment, and you can tap to view the complete comment.
Dashboard > Grades > Assignments On the "Grades" tab, if you tap a class to view class details, the "Assignments" tab for the class now displays the label of the reporting period selected on the "Grades" tab (for example, "Qtr1").
Dashboard > Grades > Assignments For classes that use assessments, when you are on the "Grades" tab and tap the class to view class details, the "Assignments" tab for the class now displays the Assessments link. You can tap Assessments to view the assignments by assessment.

Under "Homeroom", the Counselor section has been added and will display the student’s counselor if one has been assigned. If no counselor is assigned to the student, the section does not display.

Note: Whether Homeroom information is included on the Class Schedule is controlled by your district.

On the "Calendar" tab, the due date of an assignment is now circled in red if the student has one or more missing assignments on the date.

In the "Assignment" list below the calendar, the due dates for any missing assignment are displayed in red text. If you tap an assignment name to view details, “Missing” is now displayed with a red background.

On the "Calendar" tab, the Filter icon () has been added to enable you to filter assignments. To do this, tap (Filter icon) to display the Filters screen. On the Filters screen, you have the following options:
  • In the Assignments field, tap Select Type to display the Filter Details screen with options for "Missing Assignments" and "Upcoming Assignments". Both options are selected by default, but the user can clear a selection a desired. Tap Submit to return to the calendar with only dates for the filter(s) you selected shown.
  • In the Classes field, tap Select Classes to display the Filter Details screen with a list of the student’s classes. All classes are selected by default, but the user can clear a selected class as desired. Tap Submit to return to the calendar with only assignments for any date for a selected class shown.

Attendance

Note: The Attendance tab can be accessed from the menu or by selecting Dashboard>Attendance.

Attendance On the Attendance tab in Daily Attendance section, when you tap a date to view additional details, the absence date and absence type are now included on the screen with the details. If you tap a date and there is no additional information to display, such as the absence reason or the time of the absence, the message that displays on the screen has been revised to “No additional details to show.”

If your district has enabled viewing Locker Combinations, the label for the Require Touch ID toggle now dynamically updates to either Require Touch ID or Require Face ID, depending on how biometric authentication is set up on your mobile device. If biometric authentication is not enabled on the device, the setting is labeled Require Touch ID and is not available for selection.

An Info icon () has been added to the toggle to inform you that the Touch ID/Face ID settings apply to viewing a student’s locker combination.
Tap (Info icon) to display the following message, “This enables Touch ID/Face ID to be required in order to view Locker Combinations if enabled by your district.”

Note: Whether Locker information is included on the Class Schedule is controlled by your district.
